-First, disengage the joint with slight distraction or compression -Exaggerate the dysfunction -take in the direction of injury, ie direction of somatic dysfunction -Balance the dysfunction -take the joint to its pathologic neutral, balance in all 3 planes. They can be done individually or all at once. -Continue to adjust tensions to keep the joint in neutral until it stops moving, hopefully at the anatomic neutral -Because ligaments do not contract and stretch like muscles, the amount of movement needed to change the tension is small. -The direction of the movement is dependent on the shape of the joint surfaces
