Based On This Observation, What Are The Genotypes Of The Green Parents?

omes control the production of feather pigment. Gene B codes for an enzyme that is required for the synthesis of a blue pigment, and gene Y codes for an enzyme required for the synthesis of a yellow pigment. Recessive mutations that result in no production of the affected pigment are known for both genes. Suppose that a bird breeder has two green parakeets and mates them. The offspring are green, blue, yellow, and albino (unpigmented). - Based on this observation, what are the genotypes of the green parents? What is the genotype of each type of offspring? What fraction of the total progeny should exhibit each type of color? - Suppose that the parents were the progeny of a cross between two true-breeding strains. What two types of crosses between true-breeding strains could have produced the green parents? Indicate the genotypes and phenotypes for each cross.

Albinism indicates the absence of pigment, so let b stand for an allele that gives the absence of blue and y for an allele that gives the absence of yellow pigment. If blue and yellow pig- ment blend to give green, then both green parents are BbYy. The green phenotype is found in BBYY, BBYy, BbYY, and BbYy offspring. The blue phenotype is found in BByy or Bbyy offspring. The yellow phenotype is ob- served in bbYY or bbYy offspring. Albino offspring are bbyy. The phenotypes of the offspring should be in the ratio 9:3:3:1 as green:blue:yellow:albino. Two types of crosses yield BbYy F1 offspring: BByy bbYY (blue yellow) and BBYY bbyy (green albino).

About the flashcard:

This flashcard is meant to be used for studying, quizzing and learning new information. Many scouting web questions are common questions that are typically seen in the classroom, for homework or on quizzes and tests. Flashcards vary depending on the topic, questions and age group. The cards are meant to be seen as a digital flashcard as they appear double sided, or rather hide the answer giving you the opportunity to think about the question at hand and answer it in your head or on a sheet before revealing the correct answer to yourself or studying partner. Some questions will include multiple choice options to show you the options involved and other questions will just have the questions and corrects answers. Simply reveal the answer when you are ready to check your work. Absolutely no cheating is acceptable.
