The Malthus theorem argues that population grows geometrically and the food supply grows arithmetically. If births go unchecked, then there will not be enough food to feed the population. New Malthusians believe that population grows exponentially and we will run out of food it we don't stop population growth. Anti-Malthusians believe that there are three stages in demographic transition. 1. Population is stable because of high growth & death rates. 2. Population surge 3. Population is stable because growth rates lower to be the same as death rates.
