Mitosis cannot happen without cytokinesis. Mitosis is the process a cell goes through to produce 2 new cell nuclei. If mitosis happened but cytokineses did not, then one cell would have 2 nuclei in it. Cytokinesis is the splitting of the cytoplasm. If cytokinesis happened without mitosis taking place, then the cell would either be split at the nucleus and it wouldn't survive, or the cell wouldn't have any nucleus and it wouldn't survive.
