goes from the eye to the superior colliculus on the tectum. Sometimes called the optic tectum. Then goes to the pulvinar part in the thalamus and then to visual areas in the temporal and parietal lobes. This is a phylogenetically older system and for many animals below humans only have this. The puvinar sits slightly in front of the LGN. The end of this path is also the cortex, just not the primary one
